PSV suffer first Eredvisie defeat

A new era at PSV Eindhoven following the departure of Ronald Koeman started disappointingly on Saturday as the Dutch champions suffered their first Eredivisie defeat since April by going down 2-1 to SC Heerenveen at the Abe Lenstra Stadium.

Lazović opener

Koeman left for Valencia CF on Wednesday, with his former Netherlands team-mate Jan Wouters replacing him at PSV in a caretaker capacity. Things started well enough when Danko Lazović turned in a Kenneth Perez pass on 29 minutes, although the lead was to last just three minutes as Kristian Bak Nielsen headed the equaliser. Miralem Sulejmani (70) wrapped things up for Heerenveen with a shot which deflected off Jan Kromkamp and PSV's miserable day was completed when Edison Méndez was sent off late on after picking up a second yellow card.

Fenerbahçe next

Wouters said: "I thought we started well. We had a few good attacks, although our final touch was not good. Then there was a phase where we were too hasty in our build up. This meant we lost the ball too much and were overrun by the Heerenveen midfield. In the second half we had everything under control and there were chances for both sides. I think a draw would have been a fair result for both teams." PSV travel to Fenerbahçe SK in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
